An Air India flight bound for London, carrying 242 people, crashed shortly after take-off in Ahmedabad, western India.
According to the local police chief, 204 bodies have been recovered. It is still unclear how many victims were on board or on the ground.
One passenger, reportedly British national Vishwashkumar Ramesh, has survived, according to a local police official.
Ramesh told reporters: “Thirty seconds after take-off, there was a loud noise… it all happened so quickly.”
A relative of Ramesh in Leicester told the BBC they are still waiting for news about another family member who was also on the flight.
The flight included 169 Indian nationals, 53 Britons, seven Portuguese nationals, and one Canadian, according to Air India.
The plane crashed into a building used by doctors. One woman recounted surviving by jumping from a second-floor window.
