From new attractions to new lounges — there is a lot to look forward to at Magic Kingdom.

Soon, the park’s newest nighttime parade, Disney Starlight, will debut. The new Pirates of the Caribbean tavern, The Beak and Barrel, will be welcoming guests later this year. Not to mention the new villain’s land coming in the future. So, if you are planning a trip to Disney World, some things could impact your trip.
Piston Peak is the official name of the Cars-themed area coming to Magic Kingdom to replace Tom Sawyer Island and the Rivers of America. Disney recently shared a lot of details on the new land.

The land will bring two new attractions to Magic Kingdom, including a rally race ride and a family-friendly ride. The atmosphere is inspired by the Rocky Mountains. From the concept art, we might expect to see lots of trees, snowcapped mountains, waterfalls, rivers, and geysers. While this land is a while off from being open for guests to enjoy, there are some BIG changes coming due to this construction.

Disney confirmed that the Rivers of America, Tom Sawyer Island, and the Liberty Square Riverboat will see their final day of operation on July 6th, 2025. When these attractions close on July 7th, construction walls will likely go up surrounding the area.

You can see in the image below where Piston Peak will land on the current Magic Kingdom map. We expect that construction walls will cover most of this area as they begin to work on bringing these new attractions to life. So what does that mean for your trip?

Unfortunately, construction walls can not only be a bit of an eyesore, but they may also mess with the walking paths. Right now, there is a walking path from Liberty Square that you can take to Tiana’s Bayou Adventure and Big Thunder Mountain. This path may be blocked by the construction walls, making the main path more crowded. It could also affect where guests can stand during the parade route. This is something to be aware of if you are visiting after July 7th.
